Birdfood sold in grocery, hardware, or other retail stores may look good because of the colours of the seed and the apparent variety in the mix. But most of the seed in these mixes will be wasted. Birds look for seed that has high food value for them.
This picture shows a comparison of the amount of seed birds like in one of our blends compared to what little valuable seed goes into many other birdfood brands. What we found is that well over 70% of many of the other store blends consist mostly of cereal grain fillers - corn, milo, wheat, oats, barley, canola, and flax that birds don't like, along with some they do like such as black oil sunflower seeds, millet, and maybe the odd peanut half.
